Introduction
PROFESSOR CHRISPINUS MULAMBALAH, PhD, HEAD DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY AND PARASITOLOGY
The Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology in the School of Medicine was established in 1989 to train health professionals including nurses, dentists, medical psychologists, doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists, public health and medical laboratory scientists in infectious diseases at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Since then, the department provides training in theoretical and practical aspects in the following sub-disciplines: parasitology, entomology, bacteriology, virology and mycology to students pursuing health related courses in 4 schools in the College of Health Sciences. The training focuses on infectious disease pathogen biology, transmission, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis, control and prevention.
Since inception, the department has contributed immensely to production of highly skilled and qualified manpower who currently provide services in healthcare facilities, research institutions, colleges and universities locally and abroad.
