Introduction
The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology is located at the Second Floor, MTRH Building, Nandi road Eldoret. We offer training in Pharmacology to both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Schools of Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS) and Nursing (BSC Nursing). These include 2nd, 3rd & 4th Year MBChB, 2nd Year BDS and BSc Nursing students. We also teach 2nd Year Physiotherapy, Medical Psychology and Medical laboratory students (including 3rd years for this programme). Additionally, the department offers a three-year postgraduate course that leads to a degree in Clinical Pharmacy (MPharm. Clinical Pharmacy), apart from providing training for several other postgraduate programmes. These include Master of Medicine (MMed) courses in Mental Health, Reproductive Health, Anaesthesiology and Critical care and Internal Medicine. We are also in the process of developing a PhD programme in Clinical Pharmacology.
Apart from teaching, the staff are involved in several research activities including clinical trials, and provision of clinical services at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, including the AMPATH haemato-oncology clinics. The Department collaborates closely with several other institutions for both research and training including Indiana, Purdue and Notre Dame Universities.
